This is another figure for the Pantheon of Chaos Warband.

In this one I tried a new technique for the skin, which did not turn out so well. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose :)

I am not considering repainting him, in any case.

I am happy though with the overall look of the weapons, so I will be doing more like that on the other figures.

Today's update is a great post!

Not only this is the final milestone of the year in which I complete the fourth objective, which was, start Pantheon of Chaos, but also I get to paint my favourite miniature of the whole set, and the main reason why I bought it!

I can't believe that I decided to start the project back in March, 2017, but only in July, 2018 I have been able to paint one figure!

I have spent many hours layering and weathering this miniature using different shades, pigments and green tones, although now that I look at the photos, it is hard to tell :)

After a quick WhatsApp review done by my brother, he suggested more contrast added to the armour, as it does not stand out, but I wanted it to be green as well, to have a kind of putrid feel to it, so in the end I settled with an extra layer of highlights with yellow, so it is a little bit brighter.

The rest of the figure is painted with all the greens I could get my hands on, layered with some orange for rust and brown for putrid stuff. The little guy on the left side is painted with a bright green as a contrast to the darker shade of green of his buddy.

All in all it's a great miniature and definitive one of my favourite Chaos champions!

Doombull and Aekold Helbrass (II)

For my Pantheon of Chaos project, I have decided to rebase Aekold and the Doombull to make them fit with the style of the band.

I am going to use Age of Sigmar style bases, because they make the models look better. By that I mean round bases following the rough sizing guidelines for Age of Sigmar, because they are usually bigger than what you would need, and that gives a bit more room for making nicer bases.

I wanted to find a method that would be fast and would render good results for the basing, as I am a bit tired of the basing technique I followed for my Skavens and Sons of Horus, and since I was a bit curious about the new Textured Paints from Games Workshop, I decided to experiment with them and I am quite happy with the result.

The best thing about it is that I do not really need to "paint" the base, but simply lay over the textured paint and let it dry.

I am using a mix of Agrellan Badland and Agrellan Earth, but without mixing both paints, just applying them separately.

This is the step-by-step guide:

1. paint the whole base with a dark brown colour, because it will show through the cracks
2. glue all the details of the base (shields, skulls...)
3. paint the details
4. apply Agrellan textured paint, I usually put Badland first, around 2-3 mm thick and then Earth, around 1-2 mm thick
5. Let it dry for at least 6 hours(usually overnight)
6. Apply flock

As you will notice, the whole Pantheon of Chaos miniatures will be painted used simplified NMM, and without using any metallic paint. The Doombull has plenty of metallics, so I plan to adapt it at a later stage, but for now the rebase is enough work on an already painted miniature.

Tyrion

I am really happy to share this post today because it is another milestone reached, the third objective for the year is accomplished!

For this year, I needed to paint all the Sons of Horus, Tyrion, the remaining Blood Bowl figures and start my Pantheon of Chaos miniatures. Right now only the Pantheon is missing, and it is already on the painting table, so it is safe vet that I will make all the objectives this year!

Tyrion is the first -ever- high elf that I have painted, it only took me 23 years to start. Previously I had only painted Dark Elves or Wood Elves.

He joins my small collection of villains and heroes of Fantasy, next to Aekold Helbrass, the Doombull, a Trollslayer, Harry the Hammer, Morglum Necksnapper, Archaon and the Green Knight.

I have decided not to use a mini diorama as a base but rather keep it simple, with some foliage and regular basing flock so that the focus remains on the figure itself.

As for the style, I have tried simple NMM, with not too much contrast and keeping the scheme simple yet powerful, white, blue and gold.

All the gems have a thin layer of gloss varnish.

For the horse cloth I tried a simple geometric decoration with a lighter blue, although it looks to me that it is difficult to see it with the photos I did.

I am quite happy with the result, although there are some areas in which I could have done a better work of the layering and highlighting. The best thing about this miniature has been the chance to change from the tedious work of painting Sons of Horus :D

Scythe: Anna & Wojtek

Con este post termino de mostrar todas las facciones de la caja básica de Scythe.

En este caso le toca a Polania, por eso he pintado una pequeña bandera con los colores rojo y blanco en los mechas y en el oso.

No hay mucho mas que destacar, pintado rápido y con colores básicos ya que recibirán mucho trote.

Armies on Parade: Sons of Horus

After the last post I am very happy to share this one, in which I can recap the whole project!

This has been my second long project since I have the blog, after the skavens.

The Skaven project started back on the 18th February, 2015 and the last post was on the 3rd April, 2017, although the last models were painted in December, 2016. That means it took me roughly 2 years to complete it.

The Sons of Horus first appeared on the blog on the 1st of December, 2015, although the first test model was posted on 29th January, 2016, as the last post is from the 4th of June, 2018, even though the last models were painted at the end of April, it means that this project has taken a bit over 2 years, somehow similar to the Skaven Project.

I have been thinking about my big projects lately and I have decided to take a break from them for a while, so that I can paint whatever I feel like for the time being. Honestly, the last figures of this Army took me a lot of time to paint as I could not find the inspiration nor the energy to complete them. I also cut many corners while painting them and in general I did not spend so much effort compared to the rest of the Army, that means the overall quality of these last figures is lower than the rest. That only reinforces the fact that I want to have total freedom for the next few months so I can paint different miniatures: HeroQuest, Pantheon of Chaos, Lord of the Rings... I don't want to reach again this point where I feel exhausted from a project.

But don't think that the outcome of this Project is not positive, on the contrary, in fact I am quite  satisfied as how it has turned out. I am happy with the overall look and feel of the Army, with the little changes done here and there and how everything seems to fit together nicely, with a paint scheme that I am happy with.

The grand total of the Army shows impressive numbers (for me):

• 1 Imperial Knight
• 3 Dreadnoughts
• 4 Tanks
• 19 Terminators
• 112 Marines

Of course I would still like to grow a bit. Being a big fan of Dreadnoughts I would like to add more firepower with a Deredeo and a Leviathan. And being a big fan as well of Super Heavies, I would fancy a Falchion Super Heavy Tank. In any case I am going to leave these for a future (far future, for now) extension project. I don't have the energy (nor the money) for it at the moment!

Here are some photos of the full Army arranged for a parade. I think that even though there is a difference of two years between the painting of some of these miniatures, it is difficult to notice, as they fit together nicely.

Legion Praetor Tribune

I am extremely happy to share this post as it marks the last miniature that I had left to paint for the Sons of Horus Army!

With this, I have completed another point of the year goals, which makes a new record for me, as we are just on June and I have already completed 2 out of 4 goals!
The third goal is also on track, as Tyrion is already on the painting table, so I should be able to complete three out of four still in June. And the last one should be easy, since that is the next thing after Tyrion. I am looking at a good year, for a change! The fact that I chose very conservative goals also helps.

This figure has been painted in a simple way, just following the Army scheme. It is interesting to mention that it is one of the first ever Sons of Horus miniatures I built, but the last one to be painted.

This Praetor Tribune adds 180 points to the Army.

I had the same issue with this miniature as with the Chaplain, because I applied varnish to both of them at the same time. The spray did a weird thing and now it looks like there is some extra texture on the cape, and no blending at all. Too bad...
