I am really happy to share this post because it is the last one of the Kickstarter!!

The next post will be a happy family photo.

I decided I would paint this guy as a kind of Chaotic Elf, that is why he has such a clean armour and bright colours. I think it plays nicely with the rest of the band, that really show the colourful oldhammer style of Chaos, with many different colours.

I like how the tones of the white cape are blended together, I used glazes in that case and I think they turned out more or less ok. Will try again.

Possessed

These are two figures with the same body and different options for head and arms that came as a Possessed pack in the Kickstarter.

I chose to the first one to paint it as a kind of samurai style warrior, with a single sword and no shield, then I painted him in bright yellow for a contrast. I think it turned out nice.

I played a bit more with weird heads and arms for the other one, and I gave him a very mutated body, I am not fully convinced by it, but anyway, the other options were also not appealing.

I realized after painting these warriors that I have at least one of each basic colour to play Parchís, so for sure it will be the name of this group within the band :)

Gorkus the Exile

I was not sure if I should pick this orc up or not on the Pantheon of Chaos Kickstarter.

On one hand, I love orcs, but on the other, I am not so sure about Chaos Orcs. In any case I picked it up and here you can see it.

I tried to follow the classical orc scheme with leather, metal and red but with the extra add of a chaotic claw that I painted pink to match the others in the band and the tail that is also painted green but with some pink dots to show the chaotic mutation.

The figure is quite nice to paint although quite bad to photograph, due to the pose. You can only really see the face in the last pic, but it is overexposed.

The shield, as all of the shields from the Kickstarter, is great and nicely sculpted.

Ettin

For today I have another of the great oldhammer style monsters sculpted by Diego Serrate, the Ettin. In this case, due to the sheer size of it, I asked him to deliver it in resin as opposed to metal that I chose for the rest of the figures. I think it was a great choice as the details were captured perfectly and there was not a single error in the figure. I do not know who is the manufacturer for Diego, but they rock!

This figure stands quite tall, you will see on the family photo that I will post in a few weeks, it is taller than the Tainted Troll and it's almost as the Shaggoth.

It was a bit challenging to paint it, because it is mainly flesh, wood and leather; all brownish colours, which can make the figure just a blur of different shades of brown. I tried my best to differentiate each part and to tone up and down the colours to make sure they were not all mixed, there are also plenty of glazes to give a bit of colour to some areas of the flesh to show the decay of Chaos or some latent mutations. I hope that all of this effort has payed off, as I look at the figure, I do not see just a blur of the same colour so I think I manage to achieve what I wanted, but you tell me.

To break a little bit the more or less empty base, I put in a familiar that was given as a free perk on the Kickstarter, as it is pointing somewhere, I think it adds a little nice effect as the Ettin does not look like the sharpest mind around.

I think the nicest part of the figure are the faces, in particular, the Cyclops one, with the massive eye. I tried my best to make a fully detailed eye, there is a close-up in which you can see that I painted the little veins around it and some light reflection, it's the first time that I do it and I can say that I will try it again as I liked the effect.

As a last note I will mention that these photos have been made with a lightbox from Flying Tiger that cost me 5€, so that I could retire the home-made one that I have been using since 2015. The pictures have been taken with a phone, but I think they have more or less the same quality as before, and the process is simply ten times faster.

The Guardian

I am not a big fan of this sculpt, but as it was a free perk for the Kickstarters of the campaign, I can't really complaint.

I painted it with a golden armour and grey trousers. Nothing too fancy as I just wanted to paint him fast and have him ready.

Vargal Mansplitter

This figure is simply great. It is a pity that Games Workshop stopped creating miniatures like this one and simply decided to focus Chaos on Beastman and Humans.

This figure shows some kind of lizard dressed up in full plate holding a halberd, and it is a great sculpt that I had lots of fun painting!

I decided to paint the plate in brown/gold to have a striking contrast with the green skin. I am quite satisfied with the end result.

Johan Grisst

This is one of the troops that mix this feeling of chaos with funny, really old school.

I painted the face with a pale shade of flesh and to make sure nobody can mistake him for a human I gave him green eyes.

The colour scheme is simple, mainly grey for armour and I gave him green boots to add some colour to the otherwise too dark scheme.

Malar Bjornling

This one is painted in exactly the same way as Rhaegar, which is red as a proper Khorne follower should be.

Morkar Skullcrusher

I have painted this one as a Tzeentch follower, using blue and pink as main colours. It is a scheme I am following with the warband.

I decided to give him a huge shield even though I think the original does not have it, so I could paint it because the design is simply gorgeous.

The whole miniature was painted quite fast as it mainly has two colours.

I did not manage to get a better shot of the shield, aside from this low resolution granular picture. But at least you can see the fabulous design!

Rhaegar

I have painted this Chaos Warrior as a Khorne follower and with a very simple colour scheme.

Red for the armour with some orange highlights, grey for metals and grey and flesh for the skin used as cape. Quite a quick paint job for what I am used to.

Gogrant the Aberrant

Here is one of the Chaos Warrior of the Warband and the second Nurgle champion I paint.

I simply followed the same techniques as with Festemus and for the worms as I described for the Sword of Echoes.

The Sword of Echoes

This is another of the fan-favourites of the Pantheon of Chaos, the Sword of Echoes.

It represents something similar to a daemon-sword that reanimates bodies and controls them. In this case it is a human skeleton filled with huge worms, nice!

The colour scheme I went with is pretty simple, greys for the metal parts, red for the cape and pink for the worms.

As I am quite happy with the way the worms turned out, I will mention here the recipe for future reference:

1. squid pink from Vallejo
2. Sepia Wash thinned with medium thinner over the whole worm
3. highlight with squid pink and extra highlight with squid pink + bone
4. glaze with druchii violet thinned with medium thinner to give some parts a purple look
5. for an extra touch of grime I coated the worms with gloss varnish.

This miniature is huge, you will see in the mandatory family photo at the end of the project that it is easily one head taller than Festemus or any other Chaos Champion, that is why I put him in a 40mm base instead of the 32mm ones.

Tainted Troll

I have to say that when I bought this miniature as part of the Kickstarter, I was not really sure whether I wanted it or not, as I was mainly after the Chaos Thugs and Warriors and the extra Monsters were just an additional perk. In the end I am really happy I got it because I had lots of fun painting it and it is now my favourite figure -so far- of the whole Pantheon!

It is a lovely sculpt and full of little details that really add make this figure stand out.

I used the paint scheme I tested previously this year in a BB troll, even though almost all Tainted Trolls that I have seen are some shade of green, I still decided to go with this cold grey/blue colour scheme.

I took extra care with the skin by adding some little details in the places where the flesh is in touch with the grey/blue areas, and also by adding specks of grey to the mushrooms, to try and make it a coherent scheme.

I applied several highlights on the face but I really did not want to make it too bright and make sure the overall look is dark.

It was not easy to make a photo of the face because it is crouched, but I think I managed to capture it in the last one.

The Brothers Rinn

This is another figure for the Pantheon of Chaos Warband.

In this one I tried a new technique for the skin, which did not turn out so well. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose :)

I am not considering repainting him, in any case.

I am happy though with the overall look of the weapons, so I will be doing more like that on the other figures.

Festemus

Today's update is a great post!

Not only this is the final milestone of the year in which I complete the fourth objective, which was, start Pantheon of Chaos, but also I get to paint my favourite miniature of the whole set, and the main reason why I bought it!

I can't believe that I decided to start the project back in March, 2017, but only in July, 2018 I have been able to paint one figure!

I have spent many hours layering and weathering this miniature using different shades, pigments and green tones, although now that I look at the photos, it is hard to tell :)

After a quick WhatsApp review done by my brother, he suggested more contrast added to the armour, as it does not stand out, but I wanted it to be green as well, to have a kind of putrid feel to it, so in the end I settled with an extra layer of highlights with yellow, so it is a little bit brighter.

The rest of the figure is painted with all the greens I could get my hands on, layered with some orange for rust and brown for putrid stuff. The little guy on the left side is painted with a bright green as a contrast to the darker shade of green of his buddy.

All in all it's a great miniature and definitive one of my favourite Chaos champions!
