Kill Team Tournament

This weekend I am attending a Kill-Team Tournament in Berlin.
I managed to paint my whole band in time for it but I have not yet taken photos of it so I think I will be updating the blog in the upcoming weeks with pics of the troops.
The rules state that we need to provide two lists of the same faction, so after some play-testing I have decided on two similar lists, one more focused on hand to hand combat than the other.

List #1 - Escupidores del Fary

Total: 100p
8 members
  • El Fary - Metamorph Leader, Boneswords, Metamorph Whip (11p)
  • Aberrant - Combat specialist (18p)
  • Aberrant - Zealot specialist (18p)
  • Neophyte Gunner - Heavy specialist, Mining laser (9p)
  • Acolyte Fighter - Heavy rock cutter (12p)
  • Genestealer - (11p)
  • Genestealer - Acid maw, Scything talons, flesh hooks (11p)
  • Neophyte Hybrid - Shotgun, Cult Icon (10p)

List #2 - Hamijos garrulos

Total: 100p
9 members
  • Garrulón - Aberrant Leader (18p)
  • Aberrant - Combat specialist, Power hammer (19p)
  • Genestealer - Acid maw, Scything talons, flesh hooks (11p)
  • Acolyte Fighter - Heavy rock cutter (12p)
  • Neophyte Gunner - Heavy specialist, Mining laser (9p)

Skaven Army for The Ninth Age

As first post for the year I have one that does not contain a single painted miniature, I hope that it does not set a trend!

I started to play a bit The Ninth Age at the end of 2018 where I got to put my dear skavens into action. Of course the couple of battles I played ended up in catastrophic defeats, but that is just the normal way of learning a new game system.
I have to say that I like a lot the T9A rules and I am looking forward to more games and even joining a tournament this year. I highly recommend them, go check their website out and download the rules, they are free!

But, because my Army grew more or less out of the figures I liked best and not out of a proper army list, and even in that case, it would have been suitable only for 4th ed Warhammer Fantasy, I find myself in dire need of a few extra rats to fill out the list I would like to play with T9A.

Interestingly enough, most of the tournaments I have seen play with 4000 or 4500 points so I have summarized what I need for playing a 4500 point list that I like and out of that there is a gap that I would like to fill (and paint) this year.

What I would need for my T9A Army is:
  • Battle Standard Bearer
  • Tyrant on Monstrous Rat
  • Vermin Daemon
  • Magister on Doombell
  • 2x 10 Footpads
  • 20 Giant Rats
  • 50 Rats-at-Arms
  • 30 Slaves
  • 30 Vermin Guard
  • 2x 8 Gutter Blades
  • 8 Plague Disciples
  • 4 Vermin Hulks
  • 2x Dreadmills
  • 4 Jezails
  • Lightning Cannon
  • 2x Naphtha Launcher

That means, that I need to get the following:
  • 10 Clanrats
  • 10 Vermin Guard
  • Tyrant on Monstrous Rat
  • One Dreadmill
  • One Lightning Cannon
  • 13 + 16 Gutter Runners (to be used also for Footpads)
  • Two Plague Censer Bearers
For these figures I will get 10 classic plastic Clanrats, 10 classic Vermin Guards, a Tyrant on Monstrous Rat that probably will be the one from Forgeworld, the current Lightning Cannon, an old Doomwheel like the one I painted already, 29 Gutter Runners that can be a mix of old and new like the ones I have and two classic plague censer bearers that were in fact the very first unit I painted.

I am excited about these new additions and looking forward to put them into play as soon as possible!

As a last note, my old Khorne Daemon Army is also looking at me asking to be played in T9A, I am already drafting some lists...

  • Balrog
  • Nazgul en bestia alada
HeroQuest (clásico)
  • 35 Miniaturas

Armies on Parade: Chaos Warband

I showed a while ago the last miniature I had painted for my Chaos warband using mostly figures from the Kickstarter of Pantheon of Chaos, but I still owed the family picture, so here it is!

I really suck at taking group pictures, so I have tried several with slightly different lights.
The first two show just the figures of the Pantheon while the next ones include as well some from GW as well as a few close-ups.

I think it's a pretty cool looking warband, but I still want to add a Dragon Ogre or two to it. This is something I will keep on extending slowly just with figures that I like.

Mesa Warhammer

Aberrants

Here are the Aberrants for my Genestealer Cult.
The miniatures are really great and with just two bodies and two sets of arms you can make up four different figures.
I used the same approach to paint them as I mentioned in my last post, and I went again to Keyan Sark's blog for inspiration. The goal was again to have them ready as fast as possible for the game, so I skipped many of the usual steps I usually have.
For the genestealer parts I followed exactly the same recipe as mentioned in the other post, but for the flesh parts I used a very simple approach of flesh, wash and flesh again. Then I added a glaze of purple on some areas, in particular de head, to change the tone and mix it a bit with the purple of the Genestealer.
The clothes were painted on different shades of brown and orange and the metal parts were simply metal, wash and metal for the highlights.
The next ones that are on the table are the Magus and the Hybrids, I hope to show them here soon.

Genestealers

These are the first two miniatures I have painted for my Genestealer Cult Kill Team.

I decided I would go for a classic look with blues and purples and a fast paint scheme, so that I can have it ready for battle fast and can reuse the techniques to paint my Space Hulk that has been sitting on the shelf for way too long.

Because I know that I am not a fast painter, I decided to do two things to force myself to paint faster: limit the amount of time I would spent per miniature and limit the techniques, using for example plenty of dry-brush, which is something I seldom use.

To begin with, I set my eyes on the excellent Genestealer Cult from Keyan Sark, because I know he paints really fast and with great quality.
After re-reading all of his posts I was happy to see that he shared all the recipes to paint them, so I decided I would try to clone it. Unfortunately, my dry-bush skills are by far not the same, and I failed at applying it in a layered approach to generate the different shades of blue on the caparace, so in the end, I needed to adjust it with some edge highlighting, but I hope to get better at it with the next ones.

For the bases, I bought a couple of sets of the plastic Imperial ones from GW, in fact I wanted the Necromunda ones but I could not find them so I settled for this. I have to say that a mediocre job paint as I have here, with these nice bases, make up for a good miniature overall.

The recipe is as follows:
  1. Chaos Black basecoat
  2. Dry-bush enchanted blue + black with more blue in each stage to get a layered look
  3. Final highlight with enchanted blue and enchanted blue + white
  4. Purple for the skin, dark wash and purple + pink for highlight
  5. Pink for the tongue
  6. Bone for teeth
  7. Claws go in black + edge highlight with Space Wolves Grey
