Plague censer bearers (II)

This is the first post of the revamped project of the skavens.

I have decided to start painting them in the same way I did four years ago with the first skavens I ever painted.
I have painted another four in the same style as the original ones, with a single highlight and the same colour scheme.
Let's try to keep up the momentum.

Expanding the Skaven Army

Having completed my year goals it is time to go for extra milestones!

In an earlier post I shared my plans to extend my Skaven Army to be able to field a 4,500 points The Ninth Age Vermin Swarm Army.
Originally, I planned on buying the following miniatures:
  • 10 Clanrats
  • 10 Vermin Guard
  • Tyrant on Monstrous Rat
  • One Dreadmill
  • One Lightning Cannon
  • 13 + 16 Gutter Runners (to be used also for Footpads)
  • Two Plague Censer Bearers
After some eBay madness as well as some visits to my dear The Oldhammer Trading Company Facebook Group, I managed to acquire the following:
  • 10 Plastic Clanrats
  • 9 Classic Stormvermin
  • 8 Classic Gutter Runners
  • 4 Plague Censer Bearers
  • 1 Classic Doomwheel
  • 1 new Tyrant on Monstrous Rat from ForgeWorld
  • 1 Classic Boneripper (Thanquol's Rat Ogre)
  • 1 new Plastic Warp-Lightning Cannon
And a few extras that I have put on my sale page.

That is basically everything I wanted to get, even a little extra, save for the Gutter Runners for which I should get a few more. In any case, for now, I have decided to leave it as is and will start painting them right away.
At the same time I decided to add bases for all of my warmachines, that includes the already painted Doomwheel and Screaming Bell.

Here are some pics of the individual units.

I really hope to be able to paint them in the next couple of months!

Silver Tower: Family pictures

After having completed the set, I thought I would share some family pictures.
It is not so easy to capture so many figures, so some of them are blurry, but at least you can see the group effect.

Silver Tower: Gaunt Summoner

I am extremely happy to share this post today because it marks the finishing of yet another box, after completing Space Hulk previously now I am done with Silver Tower!

I was already quite tired of painting this box when I started to tackle the Gaunt Summoner, as a result I think the paint-job suffered. I decided to try my luck with different shades of blue in the armour and tunic but I am not so sure I managed to get them to look different.
All the other elements are painted using colours I have previously used for other Tzeentch daemons, so that I can give them a bit of cohesion, even if they are still chaotic.
My favourite part is the yellow eye looking from the top of the staff, but I can't really say it is a very good job. It took me roughly 2-3 hours in total which is still quite fast even though way above my 1h limit.

In any case, this marks a significant milestone for the year! I am now done painting all the miniatures I said I would. Therefore, it is time to start opening boxes and catching up with the lead mountain.
Next thing on the list is painting a few more skavens as I shared previously so I can play T9A with 4,500 points.
I am hoping to do them before Autumn starts, let's see how it goes!

Silver Tower: Ogroid Traumaturge

It has been only a couple of weeks without posting but somehow it feels like more.
I just had two figures left but unfortunately I did not manage to paint them before the end of June, let's target July instead!
Here is the first one, the Traumaturge, the one single miniature from the box that captured my eye from the first day.
I have had lots of problems with these two last figures, I am by now a bit tired of painting Silver Tower and I keep finding excuses not to paint them... in the end, the quality of the paint job suffered.

It has taken much more time than the approximately 1 hour I have dedicated to almost every other figure. I think this one took something between 3 and 4 hours, and I kept having doubts about what colours to use and how to paint certain things. I am not really happy with it, but I can put him now in the "done" box.
The pictures are just too bright and the highlighting on the skin cannot be appreciated, because of the weird pose he has, it was very difficult to snap a good picture.

Now, onto the last one!

Silver Tower: Darkoeth Chieftan

For today's post I am finally sharing the last hero of the box, the Barbarian. Well, it is officially called Darkoeth Chieftain, but we all know it is in fact a different take on the original Barbarian :)

I painted it following the same techniques as with the rest, simple and with the goal of finishing it in less than 1 hour if possible. The only thing new I tried was painting the skin without washes, just applying shadows as opposed to my usual way of doing it, which is washes and highlights. I am quite happy with it and I think I will be doing more like this one.

With this one done, the whole box is almost gone. Just two left!

Silver Tower: Excelsior War priest & Gryph Hound

I am showing today a very interesting hero for Silver Tower, the War priest.
I decided to paint it following the same skin colour as in the box art, and because I seldom paint black skin. They were both painted in approximately 1 hour following the fast techniques I have been using lately.

With these two done, just the Barbarian is missing from the heroes!
